Eureka, CA – Coastal visitors and residents are urged to exercise caution as a moderate sneaker wave warning is in effect Monday and Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued this advisory for the Northwest California coast, cautioning against dangerous waves that can appear unexpectedly, dragging individuals into the ocean.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the advisory spans from 9 a.m. Monday to 9 p.m. Tuesday. These waves can occur suddenly after long periods of calm seas. Beachgoers are advised to avoid steep beaches, jetties, and climbing rocks. Those driving along U.S. Highway 101 are encouraged to watch for changing conditions along the coast and adhere to posted warnings.

Temperatures in Eureka are expected to remain mild this week, with highs reaching 57°F Monday and dropping to 41°F at night. Tuesday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 59°F. The weather clears midweek, with sunny skies Wednesday and temperatures climbing to 61°F. By Thursday and Friday, Eureka will experience cooler conditions, with highs in the upper 50s.

Residents should remain vigilant through the advisory period and avoid turning their back on the ocean. While the risk diminishes midweek, the ocean’s unpredictable nature underscores the importance of staying cautious near the shore.
