Mississippi – Residents across Mississippi are under a tornado watch until 9 PM tonight as severe storms sweep through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has flagged multiple counties, urging residents to stay alert and take immediate safety precautions.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, the affected counties include Hinds, Madison, and Yazoo, with risks of damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, charge devices, and monitor weather alerts for updates. Avoid unnecessary travel, especially along major roadways like Interstate 55, where conditions may quickly deteriorate.

This week’s forecast suggests an active weather pattern. Monday brings continued storm risks, with temperatures peaking in the mid-70s. As the week progresses, rain tapers off by Wednesday, giving way to cooler conditions and sunny skies by Friday, with highs in the low 60s.

Emergency officials recommend staying indoors and knowing the location of the nearest storm shelter. In case of a tornado warning, immediately seek shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of your home.

The tornado watch affects over 50 counties, including Bolivar, Monroe, and Rankin, creating potential hazards for nearly half the state’s population. The public is encouraged to stay tuned to local broadcasters and official alerts for critical updates.

Stay informed and act quickly to protect your family and property during these severe weather conditions.
