East Texas – Residents in East Texas are under a tornado watch through Sunday evening as severe storms threaten 21 counties, including Angelina, Montgomery, and Nacogdoches. Authorities are urging residents to prepare for potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and the possibility of tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday, covering counties such as Liberty, Walker, and Shelby. The affected areas are at risk for severe storms capable of producing isolated tornadoes and large hail. Residents are advised to have a weather safety plan in place, including staying indoors and monitoring updates from local officials.

What to Do Now

Stay weather-aware by downloading emergency apps and ensuring your phone is fully charged. Identify a safe room in your home, away from windows, and stock it with essentials. Avoid unnecessary travel, particularly along major roadways like U.S. Highway 59 and Interstate 45, which may experience hazardous conditions.

Five-Day Outlook

Following Monday’s severe weather, cooler air will move into the region. Expect partly cloudy skies on Tuesday with highs in the mid-60s. Conditions will remain calm through Wednesday, with temperatures rising slightly by Thursday.
