Raleigh, NC – Residents across North Carolina are bracing for slick conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at midnight. Freezing rain is expected to create hazardous roads and sidewalks through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas including Granville, Halifax, Person, Vance, and Warren counties could see light ice accumulations. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become dangerously slick, particularly during the Monday morning commute.

Residents are urged to slow down, use extreme caution while traveling, and allow extra time to reach destinations. The NWS also advises preparing for possible power outages due to ice accumulation on power lines. Drivers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511.

The advisory will remain in effect until noon Monday. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly in the afternoon, improving conditions. However, freezing rain could return later this week as temperatures dip below freezing again.

The five-day forecast predicts highs in the low 40s through Thursday, with lows hovering around the freezing mark. Rain is expected midweek, which could turn to ice if temperatures drop quickly.
