Campton, KY – Eastern Kentucky residents should prepare for dangerous road conditions Monday as a powerful winter storm moves through the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 7 a.m. Tuesday, with snowfall expected to reach 4 to 8 inches in areas such as Campton, Jackson, and Paintsville. Ice accumulations up to 0.6 inches are also forecast, raising concerns over hazardous travel and power outages. Key roadways, including KY-15 and US-460, could become nearly impassable during Monday’s morning and evening commutes.
According to officials, the weight of ice could damage power lines and trees, potentially leaving many without electricity. Residents are urged to prepare for outages by charging devices, gathering supplies, and avoiding travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight.
Authorities recommend monitoring road conditions through GoKY and staying informed via local alerts. With subfreezing temperatures expected through midweek, untreated roads and sidewalks could remain icy and treacherous.
Take precautions now to stay safe during this severe weather event. Avoid unnecessary travel and plan to stay off the roads until conditions improve.
