Southeast Ohio – Heavy snow and ice will create dangerous travel conditions across the region through Tuesday morning, as a significant winter storm grips the area. Roads are expected to become treacherous with snow accumulations of up to 10 inches and ice buildup making bridges and overpasses particularly hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, the storm will persist until 1 a.m. Tuesday, impacting counties including Athens, Gallia, and Washington. Ice accumulation of up to three-tenths of an inch is likely, posing risks of widespread power outages and damage to tree limbs. Winds may also gust up to 35 mph, further exacerbating hazardous conditions.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, as slick roads could make driving nearly impossible. Those who must travel should carry an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water. Local officials urge residents to check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
Monday morning and evening commutes are expected to be severely impacted. Crews are working to pre-treat roads, but heavy precipitation may limit their effectiveness. Schools and businesses may face closures or delays, so residents should monitor updates from local authorities.
As temperatures remain below freezing, conditions are unlikely to improve significantly until after the storm ends. Stay updated on weather developments by following the National Weather Service or local news outlets.
