State College, PA – A winter storm warning is in effect for central Pennsylvania, with heavy snowfall expected to impact travel beginning tonight. Forecasts indicate between 5 and 8 inches of snow will accumulate in Bedford, Fulton, and Somerset counties, creating dangerous conditions through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning begins at 10 p.m. tonight and lasts until Midnight Monday. Hazardous road conditions are expected to disrupt both the morning and evening commutes. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep an emergency kit, including food, water, and a flashlight, in their vehicles.

The snowfall will start late tonight and intensify during Monday’s early hours, reducing visibility and making roads slick. PennDOT crews are prepared to plow major highways like Route 30 and I-99, but secondary roads could remain treacherous.

Temperatures are expected to hover in the low 30s, with wind gusts reaching 20 mph, which may lead to blowing snow and further travel complications. As the storm clears late Monday, a colder air mass will move in, keeping icy conditions in place for several days.

Residents in Adams and Franklin counties should also prepare for up to 7 inches of snow, with conditions worsening around midnight tonight. Updates on road conditions can be accessed by calling 511 or checking PennDOT’s website.

Stay indoors if possible and monitor local forecasts for updates as the storm progresses.
