Indianapolis, IN – A powerful winter storm is moving through Indiana, bringing heavy snow and freezing conditions to central parts of the state. Snowfall totals could exceed 11 inches in some areas south of the I-70 corridor by Monday evening, with widespread travel disruptions likely.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday. Snow began accumulating early Sunday afternoon, with heavier bands expected to develop tonight. Some regions, particularly south of I-70, could see up to one inch of sleet accumulation mixed with snow, making roads especially hazardous. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential delays and road closures.

High-impact conditions are expected Sunday night into Monday morning, with blowing snow reducing visibility and gusts reaching 32 mph. Temperatures will hover near 22 degrees overnight before dropping to a low of 10 degrees by Monday night, amplifying the risk of icy roads.

Looking ahead, snow is likely to taper off Monday evening, giving way to partly cloudy skies and frigid conditions. Tuesday will bring slightly clearer weather, with highs near 21 degrees, but the cold will persist through Wednesday, with lows dipping to 4 degrees overnight.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and check local road conditions before heading out. Preparations such as stocking up on essentials and charging devices are advised as the storm progresses.
