Milwaukee, WI – Eastern Wisconsin is gearing up for potentially hazardous weather as lake effect snow is expected to intensify Sunday evening into Monday afternoon. Communities in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties are forecasted to experience snow accumulations between 2 to 4 inches, with some areas possibly seeing even higher totals.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow will likely fall near the lakefront, especially in Racine and Kenosha. Commuters should prepare for slick conditions on major routes such as I-94 and U.S. Highway 41 during the Monday morning rush hour. Visibility may drop suddenly in snow bands, creating dangerous driving conditions.
Snow showers will begin late Sunday evening and taper off by Monday afternoon. Winds from the north could gust up to 15 mph, increasing the risk of drifting snow. Temperatures will remain below freezing, with highs reaching only the mid-20s.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring partly sunny skies with temperatures struggling to rise above the low 20s. By Thursday, a slight warming trend may push highs closer to 30 degrees.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours. Salt trucks and plows will be active throughout the area, but untreated roads could still pose significant hazards.
Stay informed and plan accordingly as Wisconsin navigates its first significant snowfall of the new year.
