Blustery Snow and Freezing Temps to Hit Chicago Area Monday: What to Expect

Chicago, IL – Hazardous travel conditions are expected across Illinois beginning tonight as snow and blustery winds create slippery roads and reduced visibility. Areas south of US-24, including Ford and Iroquois counties, are under a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, up to 2–5 inches of snow accumulation is possible in these southern regions, where blowing snow could significantly impact visibility. The Chicago metro area will see scattered snow showers tonight, with wind gusts as high as 25 mph and a low near 18 degrees. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and increase following distances as conditions worsen.

On Monday, blustery weather continues with snow showers likely in the morning and highs near 30 degrees. Wind chills will dip into the single digits as north winds gust up to 30 mph. Monday evening will bring partly cloudy skies with lows near 18 degrees, though additional snow showers may develop south of Chicago.

Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday offer a reprieve with partly sunny skies and calmer conditions. Highs will range from 23–26 degrees, with nights remaining cold in the low teens. By Thursday, the region will warm slightly to a high near 26.
