Colorado Braces for Winter Weather Advisory Across Multiple Regions

Pueblo, CO – Colorado residents should prepare for hazardous conditions as a winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of the state beginning Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo has issued warnings for both lowland and mountainous areas, with snow, ice, and strong winds expected to create travel difficulties.

According to the NWS, Kiowa and Prowers Counties, including Sheridan Lake, Eads, and Lamar, will experience mixed precipitation beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and continuing until 8 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters predict total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with ice accumulations near one-tenth of an inch. Wind gusts may reach 40 mph, leading to slick and hazardous roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

In higher elevations, such as the Eastern Sawatch Mountains and East Lake County above 11,000 feet, snowfall will be heavier. Starting at 2 p.m. Saturday and lasting through early Sunday, these regions are expected to receive between 5 and 9 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts up to 60 mph. Reduced visibility and potential tree and power line damage are likely in these areas.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions via the 511 hotline before traveling.
