Hastings, NE – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 9 a.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday as a complex winter storm is set to impact central Nebraska, bringing freezing drizzle, snow, and strong winds.
According to the National Weather Service, areas including Grand Island, Kearney, York, and Lexington should expect freezing drizzle Saturday morning, followed by accumulating snow and blowing snow through Sunday night. Total snow accumulation is forecast at 3 to 5 inches, with up to one-tenth of an inch of ice. Gusts up to 30 mph may lead to near-blizzard conditions and visibility dropping to half a mile during the heaviest snowfall.
Slippery road conditions and icy surfaces are likely, with temperatures plummeting late Sunday. Wind chills are expected to reach -10 to -20 degrees by Monday morning.
The storm will taper off from northwest to southeast Sunday evening, but impacts will linger into Monday. Residents are advised to monitor updates, drive cautiously, and prepare for hazardous conditions.
