Huntsville, AL – Severe weather is expected to sweep across the Tennessee Valley Sunday evening, bringing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and a risk of localized flooding. Motorists should use caution, particularly on I-565 and U.S. Highway 72, as conditions could deteriorate rapidly after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville, the storms are forecast to move into the region around 6 p.m. and continue through early Monday morning. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, and rainfall totals may cause ponding on roadways, reducing visibility and increasing the potential for accidents.

Following the storms, the Tennessee Valley will experience a sharp drop in temperatures. Monday morning could bring light snow showers or flurries, though no accumulation is expected. By midweek, temperatures are forecast to plunge, with highs in the mid-30s and wind chills in the low teens.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, monitor local weather alerts, and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings in case of power outages. Preparations should also include dressing in layers and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets as the coldest air of the season moves in.

The week ahead will remain frigid, with lows in the teens and highs barely reaching 40°F by Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay updated on forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous weather conditions.

Be ready, Tennessee Valley! A mix of storms and bitter cold is on the way.
