Pendleton, OR – Moderate flooding is expected along the John Day River at Service Creek this weekend, with the river cresting at 12.8 feet early Saturday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flood Warning, emphasizing risks to low-lying areas and roadways near the river. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads and monitor conditions closely.
According to the NWS, the river reached 11.59 feet at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, nearing its flood stage of 11.5 feet. The water level is forecasted to rise further before receding below flood stage late Saturday night. Officials urge people living near flood-prone zones to take precautions and stay informed through local weather alerts.
Rain is expected to persist throughout the weekend. Saturday’s forecast includes rain beginning after 4 p.m. with a high of 46°F. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 39°F as rain continues, potentially worsening conditions in flood-sensitive areas.
Sunday offers some relief, with rain tapering off by early morning, leaving mostly cloudy skies and a high near 51°F. However, patchy fog and cooler temperatures will settle in Sunday night, with lows around 36°F.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will feature patchy fog, decreasing rain chances, and temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to low 40s. By Wednesday, drier weather is expected, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 42°F.
