Spartanburg, SC – Residents of Spartanburg and the surrounding areas are bracing for icy conditions as a Winter Storm Watch takes effect from Sunday afternoon to Monday. Freezing rain, with possible snow or sleet, could create dangerous travel conditions and power outages. Ice accumulation up to 0.25 inches is anticipated, primarily impacting roads and trees in the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg office, precipitation is expected to begin Sunday afternoon, intensifying overnight into Monday morning. Hazardous driving conditions are likely on major routes, including I-26. Motorists are urged to delay nonessential travel, use extreme caution if driving, and prepare for extended power outages.

Sunday’s high is forecasted near 45°F, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s by evening as freezing rain sets in. Precipitation is expected to taper off by Monday afternoon, followed by clearing skies and a high of 52°F. Calm, sunny weather is expected to resume Tuesday, with highs in the mid-40s.

Emergency management advises residents to secure outdoor objects, charge electronic devices, and have emergency supplies ready. Black ice could remain a concern on untreated roads into Monday morning.
