Austin, TX – A strong cold front is set to sweep through South-Central Texas on Sunday, bringing significant temperature drops and elevated fire risks. Residents should prepare for below-freezing conditions starting Sunday night, with lows plummeting to the mid-20s by Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will begin with cloudy skies and highs around 75°F before the front arrives in the afternoon. Winds could gust up to 30 mph as colder, drier air moves into the region. Fire weather conditions will intensify due to low humidity and strong winds. Drivers along major highways, including I-35, are advised to be cautious of potential patchy fog early Sunday.

By Monday, clear skies will dominate, but highs will struggle to reach 50°F, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s. Sub-freezing conditions are expected to persist through midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain sunny but cold, with highs in the mid-40s and overnight lows below freezing.

The extended forecast shows a slight chance of precipitation Thursday into Friday, though forecasters say the type of precipitation remains uncertain. Residents should monitor updates, particularly as colder weather increases the risk of icy conditions.

Be sure to protect outdoor plants, cover exposed pipes, and check on vulnerable neighbors as the freezing temperatures settle in.
