Southeast Michigan Braces for Single-Digit Wind Chills and Lake-Effect Snow Monday Night

Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is set to experience frigid conditions this weekend, with highs struggling to break above freezing. A mix of scattered flurries and cloudy skies will persist Saturday, followed by clearing but continued cold Sunday into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, Saturday’s temperatures will peak between 27 and 30 degrees, with lows dipping to around 16 overnight. Winds will reach up to 24 mph, making conditions feel even colder. Motorists on key routes, such as I-75 and I-94, should drive cautiously as light snow could create slippery conditions.

Sunday will bring slightly brighter skies with highs around 28 degrees, but gusty winds could make it feel like the teens. By Monday night, lake-effect snow showers from Lake Huron may develop, particularly impacting areas near the Thumb region. Temperatures will continue to drop, with overnight lows nearing single digits and wind chills well below zero.

Looking ahead, the bitter cold persists into Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid-20s and mostly cloudy skies. Residents should prepare for icy roads, bundle up in layers, and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets.
