Southeast Nebraska Winter Storm Warning: Up to 14 Inches of Snow Expected Through Sunday Night

Lincoln, NE – Southeast Nebraska and parts of southwest Iowa are under a Winter Storm Warning, with significant snow and ice expected this weekend. The storm is forecast to begin Saturday afternoon, intensifying through Sunday night. Total snowfall could range from 5 to 14 inches, accompanied by ice and winds up to 35 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in effect from noon Saturday to midnight Sunday night. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated Saturday night into Sunday morning. Hazardous conditions will make travel very difficult, especially along major routes like Interstate 80.

Residents are urged to avoid travel if possible. For those who must be on the roads, authorities recommend carrying emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. Road condition updates are available by calling 511.

Sunday’s high temperatures will hover near 15 degrees, with winds gusting to 26 mph, creating wind chills near zero. Conditions will improve Monday, but temperatures will remain cold, with highs near 16 degrees under partly sunny skies.

This storm marks the first significant winter weather event of 2025, impacting cities like Lincoln, Nebraska City, and Beatrice, as well as communities in southwest Iowa such as Shenandoah and Clarinda. Residents should prepare for power outages and monitor local weather updates throughout the weekend.
