Kansas City, MO – The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is preparing for a significant winter storm expected to hit the Kansas City metro area this week. Starting Thursday at noon, troopers will begin towing abandoned vehicles from highways and interstates to assist snow removal efforts.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, abandoned vehicles block roadways and hinder the Kansas Department of Transportation’s (KDOT) ability to clear snow effectively. Motorists whose vehicles are towed can dial *47 to confirm their vehicle’s location. Towing costs will be billed to vehicle owners.
Residents are urged to plan ahead, ensuring their vehicles are not left stranded on major routes. KHP and KDOT officials emphasize that early preparation will speed up snow removal and improve safety during the storm.
Forecasts predict challenging travel conditions across the region, with heavy snowfall and icy roads likely. Authorities recommend staying off the roads unless travel is essential.
Stay updated on road conditions and weather alerts through KHP’s website or local news channels.
