Lincoln, IL – A significant winter storm is forecast to bring heavy snowfall and travel disruptions to central Illinois this weekend.
The National Weather Service predicts 6 to 12 inches of snow south of Interstate 72, with localized areas receiving even higher amounts. Snowfall will begin Saturday night, intensifying Sunday and continuing into Monday. Northern areas will see less accumulation due to a sharp drop-off in snowfall north of the storm’s edge.
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 60% chance of at least 8 inches of snow south of a Jacksonville-to-Paris line. Blowing and drifting snow could complicate travel Sunday night into Monday, though widespread blizzard conditions are unlikely.
Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates, as refined projections are expected by early Saturday morning. Preparations such as stocking supplies and avoiding unnecessary travel are recommended.
Local authorities and emergency services are on alert to address potential road hazards and power outages. Stay informed through trusted sources as conditions evolve.
