Charleston, WV – West Virginia residents are preparing for significant snowfall this weekend as a winter storm moves through the region. Forecasts predict up to 12 inches of snow, with whiteout conditions and icy roads expected.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Saturday morning. Snow accumulations could reach up to a foot in central and southeast counties, with wind gusts as high as 45 mph. A Winter Storm Watch will follow, starting Sunday morning, bringing mixed precipitation and additional snowfall of 6 to 10 inches in some areas.

The storm is expected to create hazardous conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Power outages are also possible due to heavy ice accumulation on tree limbs and power lines. Authorities advise delaying travel, but if travel is necessary, motorists should carry winter essentials, including blankets, water, and tire chains.

Local officials urge residents to monitor updates and prepare for the likelihood of difficult conditions. “This is a serious storm with significant impacts expected across the region,” a National Weather Service spokesperson said Friday.
