St. Louis, MO – A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Illinois and Missouri, with heavy snow and ice expected to create dangerous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday. Portions of southwest and central Illinois could see 6 to 9 inches of snow, with additional sleet and ice accumulations up to a quarter-inch. Impacted areas include Quincy, Pittsfield, and Alton.

The hazardous conditions are likely to make travel nearly impossible, especially during the Monday morning commute. Residents are advised to limit travel and prepare emergency kits with flashlights, food, and water. In southern Illinois, ice accumulations could cause power outages and tree damage.
