Omaha, NE – A winter storm is set to sweep across eastern Nebraska this weekend, bringing snow, icy roads, and dangerous driving conditions along major highways, including I-80. The National Weather Service predicts snowfall starting Saturday evening and intensifying overnight into Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, Omaha will experience temperatures dropping to 12°F Saturday night, with snow accumulations reaching 1 to 3 inches by morning. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility, slick roads, and potential delays, especially on well-traveled routes like Highway 75 and I-29.
The heaviest snowfall is forecast Sunday morning, with accumulation totals in some areas exceeding three inches. Cold winds from the northwest, gusting up to 25 mph, are expected to create wind chills below zero. Motorists are advised to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and limit non-essential travel during the storm.
Looking ahead, temperatures will plunge further on Monday, with highs near 13°F and lows around zero. Bitter cold will persist into Tuesday, which is expected to remain sunny but frigid, with a high of just 14°F. By Wednesday, conditions will improve slightly, with highs reaching 12°F under partly cloudy skies.
Residents are urged to stay updated on weather advisories and plan outdoor activities around the storm. Be sure to stock up on essentials and use caution while commuting this weekend.
