Logansport, IN – A stabbing report early Tuesday escalated into a fatal officer-involved shooting in Cass County.
Authorities responded around 12:21 a.m. to reports of a vehicle crash, but instead found two individuals with stab wounds. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Bryce Hamilton confronted the suspect, identified as Christopher S. Evans, 35, of Logansport.
Evans, armed with two knives, ignored commands and charged the deputy. Despite attempts to de-escalate, Deputy Hamilton discharged his weapon, striking Evans. Emergency responders pronounced Evans dead at the scene.
Deputy Hamilton, a 3.5-year veteran of the force, was placed on administrative leave pending review. The incident occurred near the Cass-Carroll County line and involved multiple agencies, including the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland reviewed body camera footage and deemed Deputy Hamilton’s actions justified. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The stabbing victims were transported to local hospitals; their conditions remain unknown. Officials have not released further details.
