Iroquois County Prepares for Bitter Cold with Warming Centers Across Region

Watseka, IL – With freezing temperatures predicted next week, Iroquois County officials are opening warming centers to protect residents. The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) announced several safe locations where residents can escape the extreme cold.

According to EMA Coordinator Scott Anderson, the warming centers will operate during regular business hours starting Monday. These facilities aim to ensure vulnerable residents, including seniors and those with health concerns, stay safe. Locations include Ashkum Coliseum, Chebanse Community Center, and the Watseka Public Library. Other options are listed in Gilman, Martinton, and Milford.

Residents are urged to confirm availability by calling the centers before visiting, as hours may vary during holidays. Churches and organizations are encouraged to check on members who may need help during this cold snap.
