Lake Charles, LA – A significant weather system on Sunday will bring severe storms and heavy rainfall to much of Louisiana. Forecasters warn of possible tornadoes, damaging winds, and urban flooding in areas with poor drainage.
According to the National Weather Service, the greatest risk for severe weather will develop Sunday afternoon. The region, including Lake Charles and surrounding areas, faces a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe storms and a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall. Residents should prepare for very heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The front will also bring colder air by Sunday night. Overnight temperatures across southwest Louisiana are expected to drop into the 30s, with sub-freezing lows forecast for early next week. Homeowners are urged to insulate exposed pipes, seal windows and doors, and ensure heating systems are in working order.
The extended forecast includes a mix of sunshine and cold temperatures after the weekend storm system. Saturday will see a high near 66°F with increasing clouds. Sunday’s high will reach 75°F before dropping sharply to 30°F by nightfall. Monday and Tuesday will bring sunny skies but daytime highs will only climb into the mid-40s.
Motorists are encouraged to monitor road conditions on I-10 and other major routes during the rain. Thunderstorms could impact visibility and create hazardous driving conditions. Ensure your emergency kit is stocked and avoid flooded roadways.
