Sacramento, CA – A winter storm warning is in effect today, bringing heavy snow to higher elevations and hazardous road conditions to Northern California. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, remains active from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, areas above 5,500 feet could see 8–12 inches of snow, with some mountain peaks receiving up to 16 inches. Snow levels are expected to drop to 4,500 feet by afternoon. Major highways, including Interstate 80, could experience dangerous conditions, including slippery roads and significant visibility reductions. Travelers are strongly discouraged from heading into mountain regions without chains or winterized vehicles.
Friday’s forecast for Sacramento calls for rain throughout the morning, tapering off by the afternoon with patchy fog lingering until 3 p.m. Highs will reach 54°F, with calm winds. Tonight, skies will clear as temperatures drop to 41°F, setting the stage for a calmer weekend.
Saturday and Sunday bring sunny skies and daytime highs in the low to mid-50s, offering a respite from the storm. Overnight lows will hover around 40°F. Looking into next week, Monday and Tuesday promise mostly sunny conditions with temperatures climbing to near 60°F.
