St. Louis, MO – A significant winter storm is set to bring hazardous weather conditions to the St. Louis area starting Saturday night. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with the most severe conditions expected on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, wintry precipitation will begin late Saturday and intensify through Sunday morning, potentially making travel along I-70 and other major roadways dangerous. Snowfall could accumulate to 3 inches in some areas, with icy conditions creating slick roads and power outages possible in freezing rain zones.
Drivers should plan ahead by limiting non-essential travel and ensuring their vehicles are winter-ready. Gusts of up to 35 mph could further reduce visibility, particularly in areas north of St. Louis. In the southern part of the region, including Farmington, a mix of snow and ice could result in prolonged hazardous conditions.
Temperatures will drop significantly through Monday, with highs only reaching the low 20s and wind chills making it feel even colder. By Tuesday, daytime highs are expected to remain below freezing, prolonging icy road conditions.
Residents are encouraged to prepare emergency kits for home and vehicles, stay updated with local weather alerts, and monitor road conditions before heading out. The Missouri Department of Transportation advises using extra caution or delaying travel plans if conditions worsen.
