Spartanburg, SC – Residents in the Upstate region should prepare for snow showers and gusty winds affecting higher elevations today and into Saturday. The National Weather Service forecasts light snow accumulation above 3,500 feet near the North Carolina-Tennessee border, with winds reaching 40-50 mph late this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, snow showers will begin midday and continue into the evening, primarily targeting mountainous areas. Travel conditions along routes like Highway 276 and nearby mountain passes could become slippery, especially as temperatures drop below freezing overnight. Drivers are urged to use caution and monitor road conditions.
Saturday will bring clearer skies but much colder air, with daytime highs near 43°F in Spartanburg and lows plunging to 25°F. Winds will calm down overnight, providing some relief after Friday’s gusty conditions.
Looking ahead to the first week of January, Sunday starts mild with a high near 42°F, but rain is likely by evening, transitioning to heavier rain into Monday. Temperatures Monday could reach 52°F before another cold snap moves in Monday night, dropping lows to 26°F.
Residents should prepare for fluctuating conditions and keep an eye on the forecast for potential weather-related updates. Ensure outdoor plans are flexible, especially for travel in higher elevations, and secure lightweight outdoor items to prevent wind damage.
