Binghamton, NY – Lake effect snow is expected to intensify across central New York this weekend, with some areas potentially seeing accumulations exceeding 30 inches. The National Weather Service has issued Lake Effect Snow Warnings for Oneida, Madison, and Onondaga counties through Sunday evening. Otsego County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until tonight.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall, combined with shifting wind patterns, will create hazardous travel conditions, especially along the I-81 corridor and other major routes in the region. Snow bands are expected to move intermittently, with some areas like northern Oneida County experiencing persistent snow. Travelers are advised to delay non-essential trips, keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, and monitor local road conditions closely.
The forecast for Saturday predicts highs near 26°F, with snow showers likely to begin in the early afternoon. Winds are expected to range from 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph, reducing visibility. Saturday night temperatures will dip to 18°F, with light snow continuing. On Sunday, the chance of snow diminishes slightly, but conditions will remain cold, with highs near 27°F and lows around 20°F.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will see mostly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid-20s. Snow showers are possible on Monday, but accumulation will remain light. Temperatures will plunge to 15°F on Monday night, creating icy road conditions.
