Detroit, MI – Snow showers and high winds are set to dominate Detroit and Michigan’s weather as the first weekend of 2025 approaches. Residents should prepare for snowy conditions Friday and strong winds impacting Lake Huron through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a Gale Watch is in effect for northern Lake Huron starting at 10 p.m. Friday and lasting until 4 a.m. Sunday. Winds may reach 35 knots, with waves between 8 and 16 feet. A Small Craft Advisory remains active for Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron’s nearshore waters until Sunday morning.
In Detroit, snow showers are expected Friday morning, potentially affecting morning commutes. Gusts could reach 24 mph. Accumulation will likely stay under half an inch, but drivers on major routes like I-75 and I-94 should remain cautious. Friday’s high will reach 30°F, with temperatures dropping to 19°F overnight.
The weekend brings mixed conditions. Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs near 26°F and winds calming to 15 mph. Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies and a high near 28°F, offering a respite before snow chances return Monday.
Residents along Lake Huron are urged to secure small watercraft and avoid unnecessary travel near the shore. Drivers in the Detroit area should monitor road conditions and allow extra time for travel.
