Raleigh, NC – Central North Carolina will experience strong winds today, with gusts expected to reach up to 40 mph in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh issued an advisory for residents to prepare for potential wind-related hazards as an Arctic cold front moves through the region.
According to the NWS, wind gusts will peak late this afternoon and continue into the evening, especially across northern counties. While most areas will experience sustained winds of 25-30 mph, occasional gusts up to 45 mph are possible. Drivers along major roadways, including I-40 and U.S. 1, should exercise caution as high winds may affect vehicle control, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Tonight’s temperatures will dip into the mid-20s, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items such as holiday decorations and trash bins to prevent damage or debris.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring clear skies and sunshine, with a high near 40°F. However, wind chills will linger, and winds will remain brisk at 15-20 mph. By Sunday, rain chances increase in the afternoon, with an 80% likelihood of showers into Sunday night as another cold front arrives.
The first week of January will remain chilly, with daytime highs in the 40s and overnight lows dropping into the 20s. Plan accordingly for cold conditions and stay updated with the latest forecasts.
