Kansas City, MO – A winter storm watch has been issued for portions of Kansas and Missouri from Saturday evening to late Sunday night. Forecasters are predicting heavy snow, with totals between 4 and 13 inches expected. The highest accumulations are likely north of Interstate 70.
According to the National Weather Service, ice accumulations up to a third of an inch are possible, especially south of Interstate 70. Windy conditions may create blowing snow, drastically reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.
The affected area includes parts of central, north central, northeast, northwest, and west-central Missouri, as well as east-central and northeast Kansas. Major cities such as Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Independence are in the storm’s projected path.
Residents are urged to prepare by stocking emergency supplies, checking heating systems, and avoiding non-essential travel during the storm. The winter storm watch is expected to transition into warnings or advisories as the event nears.
