Chicago, IL – Snowfall of up to 3 inches is forecast for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana today, creating slippery roads and challenging travel conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) expects snow to begin this afternoon, persisting through the evening before tapering off from west to east. Areas south of the Kankakee and Illinois River valleys, including Kankakee, Joliet, and Valparaiso, are likely to see accumulations between 1 and 3 inches.
According to the NWS, untreated roads could become hazardous, especially after sunset as temperatures fall below freezing. Drivers should exercise caution, allow extra time, and check conditions before traveling.
Major impacted areas include cities along a line from Sterling, Illinois, to Valparaiso, Indiana. Snowfall may also briefly affect the Chicago metro, although accumulations there are expected to remain closer to an inch.
