Wilmington, NC – Sub-freezing temperatures are set to grip the region overnight as high pressure dominates Eastern North Carolina’s weather. Residents should prepare for a chilly start Friday morning, with lows dipping into the upper 20s across much of the area.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will fall quickly after sunset tonight, with rural areas experiencing the coldest conditions. Expect clear skies overnight and a low of 30°F in Wilmington. Be cautious of icy patches on roadways, especially near bridges and overpasses along I-40 and U.S. 74 during the early morning commute.
Friday will bring some relief as sunny skies help warm the area to a high of 54°F. Light winds will keep conditions crisp throughout the afternoon. By Friday evening, temperatures will drop back into the upper 20s, setting up another cold night.
The weekend looks bright and dry, with highs reaching the mid-50s on Saturday and Sunday under mostly sunny skies. However, cloud cover will increase Sunday evening, and a chance of showers returns overnight into Monday. Early forecasts predict up to a 60% chance of rain on Monday, with temperatures peaking near 64°F.
Residents are encouraged to protect plants, pets, and exposed pipes during the coldest hours. Stay updated on road conditions and plan to dress warmly for outdoor activities.
