Albany, NY – Gusty winds and lake-effect snow showers are expected to create hazardous conditions today, with travel along I-90 particularly impacted. Wind gusts could reach up to 55 mph, potentially downing tree limbs and causing power outages across Albany and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service, a wind advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday. Residents should secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel, especially for high-profile vehicles. Visibility may be significantly reduced due to snow showers, and drivers are urged to exercise caution.
Temperatures will remain cold, with highs near 38°F today and dropping to 26°F tonight. Lake-effect snow showers will continue overnight before tapering off by Friday morning. Less than half an inch of snow accumulation is expected, but slick roadways could persist.
Looking ahead, Friday brings partly sunny skies with highs around 34°F and lighter winds, providing some relief for residents. The weekend will see continued cold conditions, with a slight chance of snow showers Saturday afternoon and highs near 27°F. Sunday looks to remain dry but frigid, with a high of 28°F and lows plunging to 15°F overnight.
Residents should monitor local weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions. Gusty winds and freezing temperatures may increase the risk of hypothermia for those outdoors without proper clothing.
