Little Rock, AR – Residents of Arkansas should prepare for a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and colder temperatures this weekend, potentially disrupting travel plans. Weather models predict a high chance of storms in central and northern Arkansas starting Saturday night and continuing into Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, showers are expected late Saturday night, increasing to a 90% chance of rain by Sunday. Southeast winds may reach 15-20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Northern parts of the state could see freezing rain or snow by Sunday night, particularly near Harrison and Fayetteville.
Friday will bring sunny conditions with highs near 51°F and calm winds, offering a brief reprieve. Saturday will remain mostly clear before clouds roll in, leading to rain after midnight. By Sunday, heavy showers and possible thunderstorms are likely. Temperatures will drop significantly Sunday night, with lows around 25°F, creating possible icy patches on bridges and overpasses by Monday morning.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution on major highways, including I-40 and I-30, especially during peak rain hours Sunday morning. Low-lying areas prone to flooding should also be monitored closely.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring drier conditions but much colder air, with highs near 37°F and brisk northwest winds. The rest of the week appears sunny but chilly, with highs staying in the mid-30s to low 40s.
