Snowfall and hazardous conditions are expected to impact Pennsylvania Friday, especially areas south of Interstate 80, including the Pittsburgh metro area. Local officials are warning drivers to prepare for delays and challenging travel.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will intensify Friday morning, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches likely by midday. Additional snow bands, driven by Lake Erie, could bring higher totals and reduced visibility in the afternoon. Drivers should exercise caution, particularly along I-80 and major routes near Pittsburgh, where slick roads and strong gusts are expected.
A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued for Tucker and Preston counties, where totals exceeding six inches are forecast. Winter Weather Advisories may expand across Pennsylvania as conditions evolve, with more widespread snowfall anticipated late Sunday into Monday.
Temperatures will hover near freezing Friday, dipping into the low 20s at night. Winds gusting up to 17 mph could cause blowing snow, further complicating travel. Snow showers may linger into Saturday morning, giving way to partly sunny skies before another system arrives late Sunday.
Travelers should allow extra time, check road conditions before departure, and keep emergency supplies on hand. Officials also urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods.
The five-day forecast suggests more snow Monday, with temperatures struggling to exceed 30 degrees through early next week. Stay informed on changing weather conditions and plan accordingly for winter travel.
