Gaylord, MI – Heavy lake effect snow continues across northern Michigan today and is forecast to intensify overnight, creating hazardous travel conditions on M-32 and US-131. Accumulations of up to three inches are expected, with reduced visibility likely in areas impacted by snow bands.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow showers will persist throughout Thursday and into Friday morning. While lighter snowfall is anticipated during the day, heavier snow is expected overnight, especially south of the Mackinac Bridge and across northwest lower Michigan, including Chippewa County. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as slick and snow-covered roads will make travel difficult.

Today’s high is forecast to reach 26°F, with west winds of 10 to 15 mph increasing the wind chill. Tonight, temperatures will steady around 23°F as snow accumulation reaches up to three inches. Friday will bring continued snow showers, with another two inches possible and a high near 24°F. Winds will remain brisk, gusting up to 25 mph, which could exacerbate blowing snow.

The weekend forecast shows brief relief, with mostly cloudy skies Saturday and highs near 21°F. However, another round of snow showers is possible Saturday night, keeping roads icy through Sunday.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions and check local updates before traveling. Use extra caution near major routes like M-32, US-131, and I-75. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and allow extra travel time through the weekend.
