Dodge City, KS — Drivers across southwestern Kansas should prepare for dangerous travel conditions starting early Friday morning as dense fog and freezing rain threaten the region. Local forecasters are warning that visibility may drop to less than a mile between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., particularly along U.S. Route 400 and nearby roadways.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy dense fog will develop Friday morning, creating hazardous conditions for commuters. Later in the weekend, freezing rain and light snow are expected, with a 30-40% chance of precipitation beginning Saturday night. Temperatures will plummet into the teens, bringing blustery winds and icy conditions.
Friday’s high will reach 43°F after the fog dissipates, but drivers are urged to use low beams and maintain safe distances. By Saturday, clouds will build, and nighttime freezing rain could make roadways slick and dangerous. The worst of the weather is forecast for Sunday, when snow and wind could impact visibility and travel.
Looking ahead, Monday will see sunny skies and a high near 30°F, offering brief relief before colder temperatures return Tuesday.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by checking local forecasts and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak weather events. Stay updated via the National Weather Service and use caution on all local highways.
