Tennessee, KY – A winter storm system is expected to bring rain and possible freezing rain to the region Sunday into Monday. Areas near the Tennessee-Kentucky border face the highest risk for ice accumulation, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.
Forecasters predict most areas will see rain, but colder northern zones could experience freezing rain starting Sunday morning. The Arkansas-Missouri and Tennessee-Kentucky state lines are particularly vulnerable to icy conditions. The storm marks the arrival of the coldest air of the season, which could linger into next week.
The National Weather Service notes uncertainties remain, including how far south freezing rain may extend and whether conditions will allow ice to accumulate. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts closely and prepare for bitterly cold temperatures.
Precautionary measures include stocking up on essentials, checking vehicle readiness, and planning for potential power outages. Freezing rain can cause slick roads and hazardous travel conditions.
