Pittsburgh, PA – Snow showers are sweeping across the Pittsburgh region this evening, causing reduced visibility and icy roads. Residents are urged to use caution if driving.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a special weather statement warning of fast-moving snow showers affecting southern Armstrong, Westmoreland, southeastern Butler, and other nearby counties. Doppler radar tracked snow along a line from Freeport to Perryopolis, moving east at 25 mph.
According to the NWS, visibility could drop to half a mile in heavy snow, and roads may quickly become slick. Wind gusts up to 30 mph could further complicate travel. Affected areas include Greensburg, Monroeville, Latrobe, and McKeesport. Portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 376 are expected to see hazardous conditions.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and allow extra time for travel. Slow down on untreated roads and keep headlights on for safety.
Stay alert to sudden weather changes, as temperatures dropping below freezing could worsen road conditions.
