Central Iowa to See Up to 4 Inches of Snow Thursday Morning

Des Moines, IA – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of central and southern Iowa as up to 4 inches of snow is expected to impact the region Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will develop in the early morning hours and coincide with the morning commute, particularly in areas such as Des Moines, Ames, and Marshalltown. The heaviest snow is anticipated between 6 a.m. and late morning, creating hazardous road conditions with reduced visibility.

Counties under the advisory include Polk, Story, Marion, and Dallas, among others. Snowfall is forecast to begin around 3 a.m. in western counties and taper off by the afternoon. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and check the Iowa 511 app or website for the latest road conditions.

This advisory remains in effect until noon for western counties and until 3 p.m. for central Iowa counties.
