Chicago, IL – Snowfall is expected to impact northern Illinois and northwest Indiana on Thursday afternoon, creating hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that snow will develop mainly south of a line from Dixon to Kankakee, continuing into the evening hours. Accumulations of one to two inches are expected, particularly in areas highlighted in red and orange on the advisory map, including Kankakee, Pontiac, and Rensselaer. Untreated roads will become snow-covered and slippery, reducing visibility and making travel challenging.

According to the NWS, commuters should expect delays and are urged to drive cautiously. The greatest impacts are expected during the evening rush hour. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, increase following distances, and monitor weather updates for the latest conditions.

This snowfall marks a significant start to January’s winter weather, with conditions reminiscent of prior severe January storms in the region.
