Nebraska Earthquake: Magnitude 3.0 Quake Rattles Near Brownlee

Brownlee, NE – A small earthquake struck near Brownlee on New Year’s Day, briefly shaking the Sandhills region.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the magnitude 3.0 earthquake occurred at 2:57 p.m. Central Time. The quake’s epicenter was 4 kilometers south-southwest of Brownlee at a depth of 5 kilometers.

According to the USGS, no significant damage or injuries have been reported. Local residents described a brief, light shaking, consistent with the quake’s classification as minor.
