Illinois: New Year’s Day ‘Mass Shooting’ in Kankakee Party Leaves Two Dead, Investigation Ongoing

Kankakee, IL – A New Year’s party in Kankakee turned deadly after a mass shooting left two men dead and several others injured early Monday morning.

Police responded to reports of gunfire at 4:05 a.m. at a residence on the 1800 block of East Piersen Parkway, where a large group was attending a party. Officers arrived to find many people fleeing the scene.

Four gunshot victims were located at the residence and transported to local hospitals. Three additional victims later sought medical treatment, police said. Quaysean T. Isom, 22, of Kankakee, and Trevontae Ellis, 20, of Pembroke Township, were pronounced dead at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital and Riverside Medical Center, respectively.

Officers recovered firearms and multiple shell casings at the scene. One suspect was found hiding at the residence and is currently being detained for questioning. Authorities have not released the total number of victims or provided details about a motive.

The Kankakee Police Department and the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. Residents are urged to contact KanComm or the Detective Bureau with information.
