New Orleans Tragedy: Fatal Crash on Bourbon Street Leaves 10 Dead, Dozens Injured on New Year’s Day

New Orleans, LA – A devastating traffic crash on New Year’s Day at the intersection of Bourbon and Canal streets has left 10 people dead and approximately 35 others injured, including two police officers. The suspected perpetrator also died at the scene after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement.

According to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), the incident occurred at around 3:17 a.m. Wednesday when a vehicle drove into a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street before crashing. Following the collision, the driver reportedly opened fire on responding officers, prompting them to return fire. The suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two NOPD officers were injured during the gunfire and are currently in stable condition at a local hospital. The victims of the crash were transported to various hospitals for treatment, but updates on their conditions remain unavailable.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid Bourbon Street between Canal and Dumaine streets and surrounding areas as the investigation continues. The FBI has taken over as the lead agency and is appealing for any information related to the incident.
