Phoenix, AZ – Residents in Maricopa County should take precautions as air quality advisories remain in effect through midweek. A PM-10 and PM-2.5 High Pollution Advisory has been issued, warning of stagnant weather conditions leading to elevated particulate matter levels, which can aggravate respiratory conditions.
According to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), these advisories will persist today and Wednesday, posing potential health risks, particularly to older adults, children, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory issues. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor exercise, reduce travel, and limit the use of gas-powered lawn equipment to mitigate exposure.
The weather, however, will be mild and sunny, providing highs in the low-to-mid 70s through the weekend. Thursday is expected to reach a high of 75 degrees with calm winds, offering ideal conditions for indoor or shaded activities. Looking ahead, Friday will see slightly warmer temperatures nearing 79 degrees before dropping to 72 degrees on Saturday. Evening lows will remain chilly, dipping into the mid-40s.
Those traveling along Interstate 10 or commuting in Phoenix are advised to keep vehicle windows closed to reduce exposure to particulates. Additionally, the ADEQ recommends refraining from using fireplaces to help maintain air quality levels.
