Albany, NY – A wind advisory is in effect Thursday afternoon and evening across much of eastern New York, including areas near I-90. Winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph, posing hazards for drivers and residents.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will remain active from 3 p.m. Thursday to 10 p.m. These gusty winds could cause power outages, blow down tree limbs, and make travel on highways like I-90 challenging. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel during peak winds.
In addition to high winds, Thursday’s weather includes chances of snow showers, especially in areas near the western Adirondacks and northern Berkshires. Snow accumulations are expected to be light, but slippery roads are likely as temperatures drop into the low 20s overnight.
The rest of the week will bring colder conditions. Friday will see highs around 34 degrees with calmer winds, while Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 20s. Overnight lows throughout the weekend will drop into the teens, signaling the onset of a frigid New Year’s weekend.
Travelers and residents should monitor local updates at weather.gov/aly and prepare for possible delays or disruptions due to wind and icy road conditions.
