Amarillo, TX – The first day of 2025 brought cool, overcast skies to the Texas Panhandle, but brighter conditions are on the horizon. A blanket of stratus clouds will dominate Wednesday, though meteorologists expect sunshine to emerge by the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures today will peak around 42°F in Amarillo, with winds reaching up to 20 mph. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to 31°F, reinforcing the need for layers if heading out late.
Looking ahead, Thursday offers a much-needed break from overcast skies, with highs climbing to 55°F under sunny conditions. Winds will remain light, but temperatures will dip sharply overnight to 27°F. By Friday, highs will reach a mild 57°F, offering a pleasant end to the workweek.
The warmest day arrives Saturday, with a high near 60°F and partly sunny skies. However, residents should prepare for another temperature drop Saturday night, with lows in the mid-30s. By Sunday, cooler air will return, bringing a high of 47°F alongside mostly sunny skies.
Drivers are advised to watch for changing road conditions, particularly during the early mornings when freezing temperatures may cause slick patches on bridges or overpasses. The NWS recommends keeping vehicles winter-ready and checking forecasts before traveling.
With the first week of 2025 shaping up to be seasonally mild, residents can enjoy sunny skies while staying alert to chilly evenings. Stay updated on conditions with NWS alerts and plan outdoor activities accordingly.
